The Speaker, H. E. Archil Talakvadze hosted the Chair of the National Assembly of the Republic of Korea, Moon Hee-sang during his official visit to Georgia.
The meeting focused on a wide range of issues with a particular attention to deepening Parliamentary relations between the two countries. The importance of exchanging high-level visits and enhancing cooperation in international formats was emphasized. At the same time, the parties dwelt upon the importance of the investment-economic and tourism potential of the two countries and prospects for future development therefrom.
Following the meeting, Archil Talakvadze and Moon Hee-sang made a joint statement to the media.
"Georgia and the Republic of Korea share democratic values, the rule of law, respect for human rights, and a policy of peaceful resolution of conflicts. All these in common make us natural partners being enthusiastic to continue the close cooperation in the future", - the Speaker stated.
Archil Talakvadze emphasized the growing dynamics of sectoral cooperation between Georgia and Korea. According to him, the largest Korean companies that operate on the Georgian market contribute to the increase of the economic cooperation between countries and help to expand the cultural, academic and scientific ties respectively.
Pursuant to the Speaker, active and growing parliamentary ties serve to prove that these relations are stronger today than ever before and both countries are constantly striving to deepen these relations.
As Archil Talakvadze noted, Georgia is busy strengthening its democracy and economy making it more fitting to the global economy and international markets. “Today we had our first discussion on a free trade agreement between Georgia and Korea. I hope that these negotiations will continue and we will be able to conclude a free trade agreement with this important political, trade and economic partner. We also talked about the potential that Georgia holds in the region and expressed our commitment to share the economic trends and achievements of Korea while implementing the novelties for the welfare of our county”, - Archil Talakvadze summarized.
The Speaker expressed his gratitude towards the Korean side for the financial support tailored to the purchase of equipment needed for the Parliament's printing house.
"I expect this visit to enhance bilateral cooperation between our countries and our parliaments. We have had a very gainful dialogue. We highly estimate the results and the relations that exist between our countries in various areas. We have agreed to carry on the cooperate in various important projects”, - the Chair of the National Assembly of the Republic of Korea, Moon Hee-sang commented.
