“Parliamentary Oversight in Numbers” – the Speaker, Archil Talakvadze opened the presentation of the Parliamentary Oversight Plan with the welcome remarks as one of 10 challenges of the Parliament.
“A month ago, we have introduced 10 challenges of the Parliament, 10 key issues we are aspired to respond at the autumn session. Today, I will inform you about the plans of the Parliament in terms of oversight activity. We have much to do but the Parliament is committed to address all the challenges”, - the Speaker noted.
This is the event for media and the society allowing the citizens seeing to the Parliamentary activity and be informed about its oversight function. “10 challenges are paramount for us and Parliamentary oversight is one of the most important. Similar to the legislative activity, oversight is of no less importance which allows the citizens being fully informed about the activity of the executive authority, performance of the Ministries of their plans and priorities and consumption of the taxes we pay, Ministers speaking in the Parliament within the Committee or plenary formats, interpellation questions etc”.
The First Vice-Speaker, Tamar Chugoshvili introduced the scheduled events within one of 10 challenges – Parliamentary oversight: “Despite that the Parliamentary oversight takes the only component amongst 10 challenges, in terms of the scheduled activities, it covers almost half of the Parliamentary activity as it is of the widest-scale”, - she noted.
The plan of the Parliament is quite extensive in this only direction for 2019.
“At the end of the year, we intend to submit the report to the society. We start speaking about the accountability first of all with ourselves to further move to various agencies as it is the only way the parliament may hold the legitimation to require answers from other institutions about their performance”.
The Parliament keeps working on 10 challenges and intends to introduce to the society at the autumn session the outcomes and the scheduled activities to address these challenges.
