“The driver will have the obligation to ensure the special devices for the children on the back seats to be in compliance with the height and weight of the child. I intend to initiate the respective bill at the autumn session”, - Eka Beselia stated after the working meeting where the representatives of various agencies discussed the changes to the law on Road Traffic.
According to E. Beselia, the working group on traffic safety has been established in 2018 to develop the traffic safety issues including child safety.
“One of the most negative indices in Georgia is related to the road accidents and casualties of children. Hence, along with the NGOs we cooperate for a long time with, we have developed the idea about necessity of the special devices for the children under 12 while being transported in the vehicles. The bill is ready and will be submitted to every agency including the Interior Ministry, Economic Ministry and NGOs prior to initiation. We are open for the comments and the remarks”.
The parties at the meeting expressed the idea on mandatory safety belts for the back seats as well.
“We need to promptly achieve the consensus as all these issues are related to safety and healthcare guarantees of the population”, - she noted.
