The Sector Economy and Economic Policy Committee discussed the new law on tourism.
The sitting was attended by the Chair, Roman Kakulia, members Nino Tsilosani, David Songulashvili and Levan Koberidze and the representatives of the National Tourism Administration and the field experts.
The legislation regulating tourism fails to meet the progress of this sphere and requires update.
“Tourism is one of the growing sectors of economy and the respective legislative frame shall be corresponding for its sustainable development. Inasmuch as our legislation is outdated, we started the working meetings and negotiations with the Tourism Administration and Economic Ministry. The donor organization is engaged in this process through the international expert to hold the studies on tourism-related issues and introduce the best practices of Europe and other successful countries”, - N. Tsilosani noted.
The new law is being developed in cooperation with USAID G4G project, the British expert engaged within this project took part in the working meeting.
“We will adjust the legislation to the reality of Georgia taking the international best practice into account. We hope that in 2019, we will have the new law on tourism oriented to to stimulation of this sector and sustainable development of tourism”, - N. Tsilosani stated.
