The Statement by the Chairman of the Foreign Relations Committee, Mr. Tedo Japaridze

The Parliamentary Elections held in Georgia were extremely fair, transparent and free, as guaranteed by “Georgian Dream”. It is recognized not only by Georgian citizens but by all competent international organizations unanimously estimating the Elections as fair, transparent and free. The international organizations have dispatched 420 observers to the Parliamentary Elections in Georgia. Georgia has already received congratulations for successful elections from American and European partners. The second round is expected soon to be held. Henceforth, “Georgian Dream” will establish the Government enjoying the greatest trust of Georgian population and the respect of our international partners. Foreign policy of “Georgian Dream” undertaken since 2012 is oriented to rationalism, pragmatism and strategic partnership interests but first of all, it is oriented to own national interests and values. Western course of Georgia is a historical choice of our population. “Georgian Dream” has already achieved a lot in this regards which will soon lead to victory. As to Georgia-Russian relations against the background of 20% of our territory occupied by Russia, the Georgian Government undertaken the policy meeting national interests, is based on intact principal position on sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity while our Western partners ensure dialogue between Georgia and Russia.

In this regards, I have attached my attention to the statement by the Chairman of the State Duma Committee on CIS Affairs, Mr. Leonid Kalashnikov, noting that the Georgian population with the Parliamentary Elections rejected the Western course.  This statement by Mr. Kalashnikov absolutely does not meet reality. He might have forgotten that when Mikheil Saakashvili and his team were in authority, Georgia has declared pro-Western ideals, though in terms of Russia it has made lots of mistakes if not mentioning crimes, including concessions in various political and economic issues. During governance of the ex-President, Russia obtained control over strategic economics spheres of Georgia, nothing to speak about tragedy of 2008. Hence, I would like to assure Mr. Kalashnikov and his colleagues hoping “Georgian Dream” will revise foreign policy vectors – it will never happen. EU and NATO integration, active and effective cooperation with our Western partners are the priority of our Government and they express the will of Georgian population. It is the change of orientation mentioned by Mr. Kalashnikov that meets the interests of Mr. Saakashvili and United National Movement.
