The temporary administrative-territorial unit on the former autonomous region of South Ossetia and the administration of the temporary administrative-territorial unit to be annulled as of January 1, 2026

The Parliament approved the Draft Law on Declaring Void the Law on the creation of appropriate conditions for the peaceful settlement of the conflict in the former South Ossetia Autonomous Region and the Law on the property restitution and compensation of victims on the territory of Georgia as a result of the conflict in the former South Ossetia Autonomous Region.

Pursuant to the draft, the temporary administrative-territorial unit on the former autonomous region of South Ossetia and the administration of the temporary administrative-territorial unit shall be annulled as of January 1, 2026.

At that, the employees of the Administration of the Provisional Administrative-Territorial Unit - South Ossetian Administration on the territory of the former South Ossetian Autonomous Oblast who are dismissed from service shall be compensated in the amount of 3 months' official allowance.

The draft was adopted unanimously with 83 votes.

The draft was authored and initiated by MPs Giorgi Volski, Irakli Kirtskhalia, Archil Gorduladze, Rati Ionatamishvili, Aluda Gudushauri, David Matikashvili, Guram Macharashvili, Akaki Aladashvili, Tengiz Sharmanashvili, Alexander Tabatadze and Tornike Cheishvili.
