David Matikashvili Participating in GUAM PA Session

David Matikashvili, the head of the Georgian parliamentary delegation in the GUAM Parliamentary Assembly, took part in the committees, bureaus, and sessions of the GUAM Parliamentary Assembly. These meetings were conducted remotely and involved representatives from the national parliamentary delegations of Ukraine, Azerbaijan, and Moldova.
During these sessions, discussions centered around security and territorial integrity issues in the region. David Matikashvili also provided his colleagues with updates on the current situation in the occupied territories of Georgia.
"In addition to military strengthening, Russia has expanded its efforts to exert influence in various spheres, including social, economic, political, military, and judicial, within the occupied regions. These actions have led to consistent violations of human rights, including the kidnapping and illegal detention of Georgian citizens under various pretexts, such as alleged illegal border crossings. Furthermore, the teaching of the Georgian language has been entirely removed from schools and kindergartens, which contributes to the active Russification of the occupied territories“, - David Matikashvili stated.
During his speech, David Matikashvili addressed the ongoing Russian aggression in Ukraine, emphasizing that the conflict poses a significant challenge not only to Ukraine but also to the security of the entire European continent. He also discussed the recent development of Georgia receiving EU candidate status and extended congratulations to Ukraine and Moldova on the commencement of accession negotiations.
Additionally, he mentioned that Azerbaijan is set to assume the Chairmanship of the Parliamentary Assembly of GUAM in 2024.
