David Songulashvili: Georgia possesses the immense capacities indeed in the angle of the global energy security enhancement

The Sector Economy and Economic Policy Committee held an offsite working meeting in Zugdidi to hear the report on the fulfillment of the commitments assumed under the Association Agreement and the Energy Community Membership, introduced by the representative of the Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy Policy Department of the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development, Mariam Avalishvili along with the recommendations issued to the respective agencies.

“Georgia, within the 5-year experience of the Energy Community membership, strives to contribute to the development of the energy market. Hence, we manifest the significant progress in the fulfillment of the Energy Community Membership commitments, which is evidenced by the approval of some Laws and the development of the secondary Bills, mostly directed to the encouragement of renewable energy. We have also approved the concept of a new e-power market model and are in the process of adopting the updated energy policy document. Let me briefly overview the potential Georgia possesses in the formation of the Caucasus into an energy hub. We possess immense capacities indeed in the angle of the global energy security enhancement, which means that Georgia will always enjoy the chance to serve as a bridge between European and Central Asian energy markets. Simultaneously, Georgia needs to keep the construction of the renewable energy facilities, which embody the capacity for our country to master the national resources and minimize the import obligation”, - D. Songulashvili stated.

The meeting was attended by the Deputy Economic Minister, Romeo Mikautadze, and the Chair of the Water Supply and Energy Commission, David Narmania, as well as the Director General of Engurhesi, Levan Mebonia, the representatives of the Business Association and other organizations, and the experts.
