Parliament Endorsing Amendments to Law on Weapons in I Reading with 79 Votes

According to the Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs, Aleksandre Darakhvelidze, the draft law regulates the issues related to the production of ammunition for personal use, the rights, and duties of temporary users of weapons, the re-registration of short-barreled firearms registered with the right to keep and carry.
According to the document, the following terms are added to the law: short-barreled weapons – firearms, gas or pneumatic weapons, the barrel length of which does not exceed 300 mm and/or the total length of the weapon does not exceed 600 mm; long-barreled weapons – firearms, gas, or pneumatic weapons, which do not belong to the category of short-barreled weapons.
"Permission to purchase all short-barreled weapons is issued with the right to keep, and long-barreled weapons with the right to keep and carry”, - Aleksandre Darakhvelidze elucidated.
The draft states that the license to purchase firearms is valid for five years for short-barreled firearms, five years for long-barreled firearms, and ten years for combined long smooth-barreled, and long-barreled firearms. The person is required to turn in the specified weapon to the service agency when the permit expires in order to reapply for and register the permission.
