The Plenary Session of the Conference of the European Affairs Committees of the National Parliaments of the EU endorsed the granting of the EU candidate status to Georgia
The Conference of the European Affairs Committees of the National Parliaments of the EU held in Madrid made a declaration. MPs from the EU member states approved the granting of the EU candidate status to Georgia and reaffirmed the importance of the enlargement policy for a common European security and welfare.
The Conference was attended by the Delegation of the EU Integration Committee headed by the Chair, Maka Botchorishvili.
The representatives of the EU member and partner states summed up the EU presidency of Spain and discussed the issues such as migration and energy crisis, situation in Ukraine and the strategic autonomy of the EU.
M. Botchorishvili participated in the discussion concerning the priorities of the presidency of Spain and the Ukraine issues and addressed the attendees emphasizing the challenges that Georgia encounters, importance of the EU integration, the support of Georgia for Ukraine etc. and called on the attendees to endorse the granting of the EU candidacy to Georgia in December.
The Chair of the Sector Economy and Economic Policy Committee, David Songulashvili participated in the discussion dedicated to energy security issues, where the emphasis was placed on the potential of Georgia and its significant projects.
The participants gave a positive assessment to the achievements of Georgia on the EU integration path and underlined the importance of the EU integration of our country and granting the candidacy.
The Parliamentary Delegation of Georgia participated in the plenary session with the invitation of Spain. The Conference was attended by the representatives of the EU 27 member, and the candidate states, MEPs and the high officials of Spain.
