Chair of the Education, Science and Youth Affairs Committee Givi Mikanadze Visits Public Schools in Didube District

Chair of the Education, Science and Youth Affairs Committee, Givi Mikhanadze, along with Members of Parliament Vladimer Bozhadze and Irma Zavradashvili, visited several public schools in the Didube district.
The MPs toured General Education Institutions No. 140, 130, 147, 22, 155, 100, and 116, familiarising themselves with the conditions and needs of each school on site.
“On the initiative of the Committee on Education, Science and Youth Affairs, in coordination with the Ministry of Education, Science and Youth, the Didube District Administration, and the Chair of the City Council’s Education and Culture Commission, we visited public schools in the Didube district to assess infrastructure-related challenges firsthand. Through on-site dialogue, we are taking immediate, coordinated decisions to address the needs of general education institutions and to ensure that a suitable learning environment is created. It is vital that students begin the new academic year in improved infrastructure conditions", - G. Mikhanadze stated.
He added that several decisions were made during the site visits that will require time to implement. Accordingly, some infrastructure projects will be completed by the end of the year, while others—based on prioritisation—will continue into the next academic year.
“For the government, it is a priority that ongoing reforms in the education system are supported by modern and functioning infrastructure. In parallel with the large-scale construction and rehabilitation of hundreds of schools across the country—an initiative led by the Prime Minister—we are ensuring that local issues are identified and addressed appropriately", – G. Mikhanadze added.
Chair of the European Socialists political group, Vladimir Bozhadze, welcomed the Committee’s initiative aimed at gaining a comprehensive understanding of school infrastructure and related issues across all districts of Tbilisi.
“Schools and school education are among the most important national priorities. The government must do everything possible to ensure access to quality education and provide students with even better learning conditions”, – V. Bozhadze stated.
As Irma Zavradashvili, Deputy Chair of the Georgian Dream parliamentary faction, noted, the process of inspecting school infrastructure in Didube—together with the Parliament, the Ministry of Education, Science and Youth, and local self-government representatives—enables the identification of specific problems.
“Priorities are being set regarding what can be accomplished by September—before the start of the new school year—and what should be planned for the future, to ensure that the learning process continues without interruption and that children have all necessary conditions for a full-fledged education”, – I. Zavradashvili remarked.
The delegation also included: First Deputy Minister of Education, Science and Youth, Giorgi Modebadze; Deputy Minister Tamar Makharashvili; Director of the LEPL Educational and Scientific Infrastructure Development Agency, Irakli Kuprava; Majoritarian Member of the Tbilisi City Council for Didube District, Givi Chkhartishvili; and representatives of the local municipality.
