Gela Samkharauli Held a Working Meeting on the Development and Promotion of Georgian Wheat Culture

On 5 February 2026, the Chair of the Agriculture Committee, Gela Samkharauli, held a working meeting on issues related to the development and promotion of Georgian wheat culture.

During the meeting, which was attended by representatives of the legislative and executive authorities, the Patriarchate, farmers’ associations, and sector experts, the participants discussed measures aimed at the protection and popularization of Georgian wheat.

“Following the inclusion of Georgian wheat culture in UNESCO’s Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, this recognition requires not only preservation but further development. At today’s working meeting, we brought together participants who were involved in the previous preparatory processes and jointly discussed future plans. Our goal is to use the international recognition of Georgian wheat culture for the benefit of our country and population in the future. Georgian wheat and the endemic varieties we possess are unique, and introducing them to the international community will yield positive results both from an economic perspective and in terms of tourism development,” - stated Gela Samkharauli.

Following the consolidation of the views expressed at the working meeting, an action plan will be prepared to support the further development of Georgian wheat culture.
