The Member of Parliament, Member of the Faction “Alliance of Patriots – Social-Democrats” Gia Zhorzholiani held the briefing dedicated to the Parliamentary Elections 2020 stating that deriving from the reality, the Social-Democrats start the active electoral campaign.

“Today, modern Georgian politics more implies the question – how to come to the authority, than why to come to authority. It is evidenced by the processes related to the electoral system. Hence, the Social-Democrats intend to stop the discussions and start the active electoral campaign aiming at introduction of our political platform and visions about development of the country”, - he noted.

He recalled the initiatives offered to the ruling party and noted that the February 17 initiative envisaged restoration of the dialogue with the MPs not attributed to the National Movement or European Georgia on achievement of higher proportionality of the electoral system.

“This resource allowed agreement on the Constitutional change to improve the electoral system. We believe that this part of MPs bears significant responsibility to play their historical role to, based on their principal decision, change the current “bipolarity” between the “Georgian Dream” and the National Movement and the opposition parties as a result of the improved electoral system”.

Even if the wide consensus is not achieved, the version offered by the Georgian Dream (40% merge; 110/40; 1% threshold) will improve the electoral environment.
