Giorgi Tsereteli: OSCE will make the due response to the fact of decease of Archil Tatunasvhili in Tskhinvali

OSCE Parliamentary Assembly 26 Feb 2018
Giorgi Tsereteli: OSCE will make the due response to the fact of decease of Archil Tatunasvhili in Tskhinvali

The OSCE PA President, Giorgi Tsereteli made the statement regarding the fact of decease of Archil Tatunasvhili in Tskhinvali and called on the international society to be more active regarding the grave situation on the occupied territories of Georgia.

“This is the gravest fact occurred and naturally, the response shall be acute. It is not the first time when we witness such tragedy and we remember the case of Giga Otkhozoria as well. Unfortunately, international investigation could not be held in re. Naturally, when we encounter disorder on the occupied territories and the international organizations and monitors are not admitted to make any impact on the processes, related to human rights, free movement of the people and accessibility to education, we shall always expect such grave consequences.

The OSCE PA has made the numerous statements regarding this fact and at the last winter session I have emphasized that along with the volatile areas in Ukraine and elsewhere, international society shall actively consider Georgia issue never declining the subject of the occupied territories of Georgia. Deriving from the main responsibility of Russia, this is the main topic we hold while communicating with Russian MPs within the Assembly.

I believe that the fact of decease of A. Tatunashvili shall be followed with the new impulse and active wave. Other mechanisms shall as well be involved, such are OSCE, EU or USA. The accelerated investigation shall be held to reveal the offenders and imposition of the sanctions thereto similar to so-called Magnitsky Act.

Today, I have spoken with my colleagues in OSCE and agreed that OSCE will make the respective response and statement. It is as well important that the political groups within the Parliament to have the unified position”.

G. Tsereteli touched upon this issue at the Bureau sitting today and on behalf of the Faction European Georgia-Movement for Freedom expressed his condolences to the family of A. Tatunashvili. He expressed support to development of the Parliamentary Resolution noting that the Resolution shall bear the clear aspiration to condemn the fact and call on the international society to make certain steps regarding the grave situation on the occupied territories of Georgia.
