Irakli Kovzanadze: I hope the inflation rate will demonstrate a descending tendency in 2023

“The economy of Georgia demonstrates quite a positive progress. The only thing that somehow “cheapens” this progress is inflation. It is due to high inflation that the population cannot feel a positive effect of the economic growth”, - the Chair of the Budget and Finance Committee, Irakli Kovzanadze stated at the plenary session upon the consideration of the Main Directions of Monetary Policy for 2023-2025.
He underlined the importance of the monetary policy of the National Bank noting that the Bank shall do all in its power to reduce inflation and approximate it to the target.
“Inflation target index since 2018 is 3%, and hence, the Parliament endorses the inflation target index at 3% for the last 5 years but the actual indices drastically differ from the target. It is as well noteworthy that recently, we witness the signs of stabilization of inflation and I hope the inflation rate will demonstrate a descending tendency in 2023”, - he added.
