Maia Bitadze attended an Organizational Meeting on the sustainable management of specific waste

The Chair of the Environmental Protection and Natural Resources Committee, Maia Bitadze, together with the State Trustee in the Kakheti region, Platon Kalmakhelidze, attended an organizational meeting on the sustainable management of specific waste in the city of Telavi.
At the meeting, organized with the support of the extended producer responsibility organization Wasteless, participants discussed the ongoing campaign for the collection of waste from electrical and electronic equipment, as well as batteries, and deliberated on future steps.
Within the framework of this campaign, Kakheti has been selected as a pilot region, which entails the placement of collection boxes for electrical and electronic waste in public schools across the region.
Maia Bitadze addressed the participants of the meeting.
“For the Parliament of Georgia and the Environmental Protection and Natural Resources Committee, one of the priority areas is the development of a green and circular economy, the practical implementation of which includes, among other things, awareness-raising activities. It is noteworthy that in 2015, the Waste Management Code was established within the national legislative framework, after which waste management became one of the important directions for economic development. We hope that through joint efforts it will be possible to improve the culture of waste management and achieve long-term environmental outcomes”, - Maia Bitadze stated.
The meeting was also attended by mayors of municipalities in Kakheti and representatives of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture.
