The Chair of the Environmental Protection and Natural Resources Committee, Maia Bitadze and her First Deputy, Khatia Tsilosani participated in the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) 13^th Parliamentary Forum within the Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week.

In her speech, M. Bitadze stressed the importance of green energy, overviewed the climate change global problems and introduced the processes in the Georgian Parliament, including the development of a new Law on Climate, making Georgia one of the leaders among the countries applying the similar law. She underlined the potential of Georgia in terms of the utilization of green energy, including hydro and wind energy and dwelt on the plans and objectives of the country on de-carbonization, envisaging the mitigation of the greenhouse gas emissions with 35% as of 2030.

She informed the attendees about the reforms in Georgia, including the historical project of utmost importance, namely, the Black Sea electricity transmission network to connect Georgia directly to the EU and enhance the energy security and energy independence of the country.

M. Bitadze highlighted the significance of international cooperation, including at the Parliamentary level in terms of the capacity building and exchange of technological knolwedge.
