Mariam Jashi: Great Britain remains committed to supporting Georgia on its path to Euro-Atlantic integration

The members of the Faction “Independent MPs” held the meeting with the Ambassador of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, H.E. Justin McKenzie Smith.

Pursuant to the Chair of the Faction, Mariam Jashi, the meeting was mainly devoted to the Faction's priorities and the vision related to the current political processes.

Mariam Jashi: “The Ambassador reaffirmed his commitment to continue strengthening of cooperation between the Parliaments of Georgia and Great Britain. Obviously, this cooperation will affect each MP, each faction. Mr. Justin McKenzie Smith was particularly interested in the new Faction. We have exchanged our views as on recent developments in Georgia so on the issue of Brexit. Although Britain is to leave the EU, it remains committed to supporting Georgia on its path to Euro-Atlantic integration and hence, shall again serve as one of the key players in shaping the EU policy agenda".

Justin McKenzie Smith: “As a British Ambassador it is always helpful and interesting for me to hear different views on the Georgian Parliament. I am glad to have met the new Faction. I believe that the Parliament of Georgia, as the highest legislative body, occupies a central place in the development of the country's democracy. I am pleased that the UK supports the Georgian Parliament and this process will continue in the future”.
