Meeting of Irakli Sesiashvili with Defence Attaché of the Federal Republic of Germany to Georgia, Lars Ukerwitz

Chairman of the Defense and Security Committee met with the Defense Attaché of the Federal Republic of Germany, Lieutenant Colonel Lars Ukerwitz to discuss the partnering relations between the two countries, including cooperation with the Ministry of Defense.
"First of all, we both hailed the partnership that has been established between Georgia and Germany over the years. We exchanged thanks for the cooperation and support and talked about cooperation with the Ministry of Defense, which is another manifestation of our outstanding cooperation and partnership. We are happy that Georgian soldiers participating in international missions, including those in military training, are exercising in Germany”, - I. Sesiashvili remarked post hoc the meeting.
According to him, the conversation also touched upon the situation caused by the pandemic of COVID-19.
"We have estimated the current situation regarding the pandemic. Obviously, both countries have tangible accomplishments in terms of fighting the pandemic, and Germany is one of the countries with which Georgia resumed the air traffic,"- the Chair of the Committee noted.
The parties discussed the situation in Abkhazia and Tskhinvali and spoke about the hybrid threats posed by Russia.
"We certainly discussed the major threat to Georgia - the occupation and reviewed the situation in Abkhazia and Tskhinvali. Germany has always been one of the staunchest supporters of our country when it comes to the territorial integrity of Georgia. We also talked about the hybrid threats coming from Russia, be it propaganda, fake news, intelligence or other issues", - I. Sessiashvili commented.
One of the main topics of the meeting was the experience of the Bundestag and the Parliament of Georgia, which concerns the parliamentary oversight toward the defense and security sector.
"The Georgian Parliament has benefitted from the Bundestag's extensive experience in parliamentary control over the years, resulting in a number of similar regulations, which once again shows that our country and Parliament are on the path of reform based on European democracy and the experience of countries similar to Germany", - Irakli Sesiashvili stated.
The parties expressed strong commitment to future cooperation.
