Nikoloz Samkharadze: We have informed the Speaker of the Estonian Parliament about the upcoming elections and that the OSCE/ODIHR EOM will observe these elections
The Speaker of the Parliament of Georgia, H.E. Kakha Kuchava, as part of his visit to Vienna, at the Fifth World Conference of Speakers of Parliament, is holding meetings with his colleagues.
Bilateral relations were discussed at the meeting with the Speaker of the Estonian Parliament, H.E. Jüri Ratas, and the prospects for further deepening of cooperation were discussed. The focus was on intensifying inter-parliamentary ties.
The conversation focused on the situation in the occupied regions of Georgia, Georgia's Euro-Atlantic integration and the importance of the support of partner countries in this process. K. Kuchava also informed the Estonian colleague about the upcoming local self-government elections in Georgia.
"We discussed the enhancement of Georgian-Estonian relations. While we have solid political ties, there are other areas where we might improve our collaboration, such as economic challenges and, at the very least, trade. We also discussed ways to strengthen parliamentary cooperation between the friendship groups and the foreign affairs committees. The Speaker of the Estonian Parliament was particularly interested in the situation in Georgia's occupied areas and what efforts the international community, including Estonia, could take to improve the situation. We also discussed our objectives for NATO integration and, of course, the Eastern Partnership's future. We underlined our desire for the EU to pay greater attention to the Associated Trio of nations - Georgia, Ukraine, and Moldova - and provide additional measures to bring these countries closer to the EU. We also discussed Georgia's membership chances. Estonia supports this proposal, but we need to take it to the EU level in order to provide Georgia, Ukraine, and Moldova a chance to join the EU. We offered some background on Georgia's local self-government elections and the fact that the OSCE/ODIHR EOM will be present to witness the process”, - Nikoloz Samkharadze, Chairman of the Foreign Relations Committee stated after the meeting.
Today, the Speaker held meetings with the Speaker of the Parliament of Armenia, Alen Simonyan, and the Speaker of the Parliament of Cameroon, Marcel Niat Njifenji.
The sides discussed the deepening of bilateral relations at the meetings.
