Nikoloz Samkharadze conversing on the security issues with his Czech counterpart
The Chair of the Foreign Relations Committee, Nikoloz Samkharadze, serving the visit to Prague held a meeting with the Chair of the Foreign Affairs, Defense and Security Committee of the Czech Senate, Pavel Fischer.
The parties overviewed the Russian aggression in Ukraine and its impact on European security and touched upon the military and financial aid allocated by the EU for Ukraine.
The impact of the war in Ukraine on Georgia and the wider South Caucasus region has been underlined. N. Samkharadze informed his Czech counterpart about the economic situation and the energy security of Georgia, as well as the grave situation in the occupied territories.
The Georgian and Czech MPs touched upon the EU membership prospect of Georgia and in this regard, N. Samkharadze introduced the course of the fulfillment of 12 recommendations by the Georgian Government.
“My counterpart has reaffirmed the support of the Czech Republic to the reception of the candidate status by Georgia. According to him, Georgia will soon enjoy the candidate status, though noting that it is not a status that counts but the EU membership, which requires Georgia and the EU to take significant steps since the Russian aggression evidently exposed the fact that the EU security lies through the security of our region”, - N. Samkharadze stated.
