Media and Society 15 Sep 2022
Meeting of Nino Tsilosani with CEC Chairman

The Chair of the Gender Equality Council, Nino Tsilosani met with the Chairman of the Central Election Commission, Giorgi Kalandarishvili, and a member of the Commission, Maia Zaridze to discuss the reforms implemented by the Central Election Commission in the gender direction.

The parties expanded on the practical steps that the Commission is taking in the thereof direction for the upcoming parliamentary elections.

"We have had an important meeting with the Chair of the Central Election Commission and the person responsible for gender-related issues in the CEC. I was aware of significant changes and actions the Election Commission is taking to ensure that gender issues are taken into account in all areas. But today we examined the problems and compared several viewpoints. We anticipate that the gender situation will significantly improve by the 2024 elections. At first glance, this date may be quite far, but on the other hand, there is enough time left to prepare many issues, including the elimination, monitoring, and prevention of discriminatory and sexist statements or approaches towards female candidates. We agreed on close cooperation and I think that the nearest period when we will have a tangible result”, N. Tsilosani noted.
