MPs participated in the Consideration of the State Compensation for the Victims of the Domestic Violence and/or Violence against Women
MPs Mikheil Sarjveladze and Vladimir Kakhadze participated in the event organized by the Ministry of IDPs, Labor, Health and Social Protection to discuss the amount of state compensation to be issued to the victims of domestic violence and/or the violence against women, the regulations for the issue of the compensation, as well as the international standards and best practice in this sphere.
The event was attended by the representatives of the legislative and executive authorities, UN Women and other parties concerned. It is noteworthy that on December 30, 2021, the term of the development of the hereof regulation under the change to the Law on Elimination of Violence against Women and/or Domestic Violence, Protection and the Aid of the Victims and the obligation of the Government to develop the regulations for the issue of the state compensation and to determine the amount of the state compensation for the victims was extended with one year to January 1, 2023.
At that, the hereof legal change imposed the obligation on the Health Ministry to address the Government with the respective nomination.
The Human Rights and Civil Integration Committee, within the Parliamentary oversight and in view of due enforcement of the obligation cooperated with the Ministry.
The development of a normative act will as well facilitate the fulfillment of the 9th point of the EU recommendations, which envisages the enhancement of gender equality and countering violence against women.
