Parliament Supported Reduction of Fines for Speeding Violations

The Parliament of Georgia, at III reading, approved the draft Administrative Offences Code, which provides for a reduction in fines imposed for exceeding the established speed limits.
The draft law was presented by the Chair of the Legal Issues Committee, Archil Gorduladze.
According to the amendments, exceeding the speed limit by more than 15 km/h but not more than 30 km/h will result in a GEL 50 fine, instead of the current GEL 100 fine; exceeding the speed limit by more than 30 km/h but not more than 50 km/h will result in a GEL 100 fine, instead of the current GEL 300 fine; exceeding the speed limit by more than 50 km/h will result in a GEL 300 fine; Under the adopted amendments, damage to trees and shrubs caused as a result of a road traffic accident will be subject to a GEL 500 fine, replacing the previous GEL 5,000 fine.
In addition, the law introduces a new provision allowing distribution vehicles to stop in designated BUS LANE areas for unloading goods between 1:00 a.m. and 6:00 a.m., during hours when public transportation services are not operating.
