Joint sitting of the Education, Science and Youth Affairs Committee and the Interim Commission on Territorial Integrity Restoration and De-Occupation Held at Parliament

A joint sitting of the Education, Science and Youth Affairs Committee and the Interim Commission on Issues Related to the Restoration of Territorial Integrity and De-Occupation was held at Parliament.
The sitting was co-chaired by the Chair of the Commission, Giorgi Volski, and the Chair of the Education, Science and Youth Affairs Committee, Mariam Lashkhi.
At the joint meeting, which was held in camera, participants discussed the conduct of the educational process in the occupied territories, as well as the teaching and use of the native Georgian language. Particular attention was paid to existing challenges and the directions of state policy.
Reports on the matter were delivered by Deputy Minister of Education, Science and Youth Tamar Makharashvili; First Deputy State Minister for Reconciliation and Civic Equality Lia Gigauri; Chair of the Government of the Autonomous Republic of Abkhazia, Giorgi Jincharadze; and Chair of the Supreme Council of the Autonomous Republic of Abkhazia, Jemal Gamakharia.
As noted, it is important to ensure that young people living in the occupied territories have the opportunity to receive education in their native language.
On the same day, MP Eka Sepashvili was elected Deputy Chair of the Interim Commission on Restoration of Territorial Integrity and De-Occupation.
