Parliament Hosts Voluntary Blood Donation Campaign

At the Parliament of Georgia, a voluntary blood donation campaign was held on the occasion of World Blood Donor Day, initiated by the Healthcare and Social Issues Committee.
Members of Parliament and staff of the legislative body participated in the donation campaign.
“Today, we began the working day in Parliament with our traditional blood donation campaign. I would like to thank every individual who took part and selflessly donated blood. This is an extremely important initiative that can save lives. I urge all citizens—if you are able—donate blood and save a life", - Zaza Lominadze, Chair of the Committee on Healthcare and Social Issues, stated.
The importance of blood donation was also emphasized by Dimitri Khundadze, Chair of the parliamentary political group "People’s Power".
“Voluntary blood donation is one of the finest expressions of solidarity. A single unit of donated blood can save at least one life,” – D. Khundadze noted.
World Blood Donor Day was established by the World Health Organization in 2005 and is observed annually on 14 June. Its aim is to raise public awareness about the need for safe blood and blood products and to highlight the vital role of donation in saving lives.
The voluntary blood donation campaign is held annually in Parliament. This year’s donation was carried out by the Blood Bank of the Georgian Institute of Hematology and Transfusiology.
