The Parliament discussing the Role of Women in the Defense and Security Sphere
The Gender Equality Council discussed the enforcement of the gender policy in the defense and security sphere and the analysis of gender perspective, as well as the development of a new national action plan for implementation of the UN Security Council Resolution N1325 on Women, Peace and Security.
As noted, the strengthening of the role of women in the defense and security sphere is one of the key directions and despite that the statistical data in this regard has recently increased, the challenges remain.
“Today, we have identified the market needs and problems to develop the action plan and submit it to the Ministries and donor organizations. This is the direction supervised by the opposition MP, member of the Council, Teona Akubardia and I believe, she will lead to taking various important steps”, - the Chair of the GEC, Nino Tsilosani stated.
The meeting was attended by the representatives of the Interior Ministry, Defense Ministry and NGOs.
