The Human Rights and Civil Integration Committee discussed the Draft Imprisonment Code.

According to the Chair, Mikheil Sarjveladze, the Draft provides the issue stressed in the legislative initiative by the Public Defender. The Draft re-regulates the communication for the detained convicts – correspondence, phone conversations etc.

The convict with the right on phone conversation restricted under the motivated decision of an investigator or prosecutor, as well as the convict with the fully expired phone conversation limits as envisaged under the Code (3 calls per month) shall enjoy the right to in writing appeal to the penitential department to inform his/her lawyer about the will to meet.

“Thus, the penitential department will carry the obligation to without delay, however, no later than within the next business day, send the SMS to the respective number provided in the application for the lawyer”, - he stated.

The Committee approved the Draft.
