Media and Society 25 Feb 2026

105 years have passed since the occupation of the First Republic of Georgia.
Pursuant to the July 21, 2010, Resolution of the Parliament of Georgia, February 25 has been declared Soviet Occupation Day.
In honor of the victims of the occupation, the state flag is flown at half-mast on the Parliament building and on administrative buildings throughout the territory of Georgia on this day.
On February 25, 1921, the Red Army of Soviet Russia captured Tbilisi.
Russia overthrew the government elected through universal and free elections and carried out the annexation of the Democratic Republic of Georgia, a subject of international law.
