The Budget and Finance Committee discussed the Draft Law on Public Service

The amendment introduced to the Law on Public Service creates the opportunity for a paid internship in public institutions; the Draft, being a legal initiative of the Faction “Georgian Dream” was discussed by the Committee today.
According to the Chair of the Education and Science Committee, Givi Mikanadze, as one of the initiators of the Draft, the role of the interns in the routine activity of the public institutions is particularly noteworthy, along with their engagement in the organizational administration.
Hence, their remuneration shall be regulated on the legal level, since this is one of the grounds for the effective application of their knowledge and experience in practice to prevent the outflow of competent employees and to ensure the use of the experience and knowledge for public interests. The number of interns in public offices and the upper ceilings of their remuneration are regulated under the Law on Remuneration in Public Institutions.
“It is about 400-500 GEL that is envisaged under the Draft, though the reservation envisages the deficient professions, allowing the institution, within the available assets, to set a higher coefficient in the remuneration, which in this case, will achieve about 1000 GEL”, - G. Mikanadze stated.
The Committee endorsed the Draft.
