Shalva Papuashvili: we are committed to closely cooperating with the Anti-Corruption Bureau to ensure the openness of its activity with the best interests of our citizens taken into account

“I believe, the Anti-Corruption Bureau will prove to be a professional agency exercising its mission and functions with high dignity. The Parliament, as the overseer, is committed to closely cooperating with the Anti-Corruption Bureau to ensure the openness of your activity with the best interests of our citizens taken into account”, - the Speaker, Shalva Papuashvili stated at the presentation of the Anti-Corruption Bureau.
The Prime Minister, Irakli Garibashvili, the Speaker, Shalva Papuashvili and the Director of the Anti-Corruption Bureau, Razhden Kuprashvili addressed the attendees.
As Speaker Papuashvili noted, the establishment of the Anti-Corruption Bureau is paramount for the institutional development of the country and at the same time, is an integral part of 12 recommendations that Georgia is complying with for the last few months.
“Our anti-corruption policy can be in general estimated as highly effective according to various international assessments concerning the perception of the corruption in the country, bona fide performance of the Government, bribery risks, the efficiency of public services, transparency of the budget and the openness of the decision-making process and based on the hereof assessments, Georgia is a leader country in the region, far ahead of many EU and NATO member states, which naturally is the greatest achievement”, - the Speaker noted and attached the emphasis on the priorities that have been determined by the Working Group for the Anti-Corruption Bureau activity.
“It was the very approach applied by the Parliament in the course of compliance with the EU recommendations – we set up the Working Group, which undertook a detailed analysis of the anti-corruption institutional system, and based on the analysis and providing the recommendations of our international partners, we opted to accumulate various anti-corruption key functions under a uniform institutional umbrella: monitoring of the financing of the political parties; monitoring of the asset declarations of public officers; regulating the incompatibility of interests; and the development of the strategic documents and recommendations”, - Speaker Papuashvili declared.
Per the Speaker, curbing corruption is not the goal that is achieved by an ever-evolving and continuous process and the Parliament ensures the improvement of the institutions, procedures and enforcement mechanisms in this regard.
The presentation in the Parliament was attended by the representatives of the legislative and executive, as well as the judicial authorities and the diplomatic corps.
