The Speaker of the Parliament of Georgia, H.E. Shalva Papuashvili, held a meeting with the Chairman of the Mäjilis of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan, H.E. Erlan Qoşanov.

 

During this historic first official visit by the Speaker of the Parliament of Georgia, both parties acknowledged it as a favorable opportunity to further enhance cooperation between Georgia and Kazakhstan. They underscored the longstanding and close ties between the Georgian and Kazakh peoples.

 

Shalva Papuashvili expressed gratitude to the Kazakh side for its steadfast support of Georgia's territorial integrity. Additionally, he conveyed his condolences over the ongoing disaster in Kazakhstan and offered Georgia's assistance in managing the situation.

 

Discussions encompassed various areas of bilateral relations, including politics, trade, economy, agriculture, transport, investment, tourism, and culture. Special emphasis was placed on collaboration to leverage the transport and transit potential of the Middle Corridor.

 

The Kazakh delegation expressed readiness to learn from Georgia's experiences in implementing reforms across different sectors. Both sides highlighted the importance of strengthening parliamentary ties, including through friendship groups and sectoral committees.

 

Furthermore, the Speakers exchanged information regarding ongoing parliamentary activities and key agenda items. Shalva Papuashvili extended an invitation to his Kazakh counterpart to visit Georgia.

 

The meeting took place as part of Shalva Papuashvili's current official visit to the Central Asian region, accompanied by a parliamentary delegation.

 

The delegation, led by the Speaker of the Parliament of Georgia, includes Kakha Kakhishvili, Head of the Friendship Group with the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan and Chairman of the Regional Policy and Self-Government Committee; David Matikashvili, Head of the Friendship Group with the Parliament of Turkmenistan and First Deputy Chairman of the Legal Issues Committee; Irakli Mezurnishvili, Head of the Friendship Group with the Parliament of Uzbekistan and First Deputy Chairman of the Culture Committee; Baia Kvitsiani, Deputy Chair of the Education, Science, and Youth Affairs Committee; Anton Obolashvili, member of the Budget and Finance Committee; and Sozar Subari, member of the Agrarian Issues Committee.
