Shalva Papuashvili met with the President of the Republic of Serbia

The Speaker of the Parliament of Georgia, Shalva Papuashvili, met with the President of the Republic of Serbia, Aleksandar Vučić.

Shalva Papuashvili emphasized the significance of the Serbian President’s first official visit to Georgia.

He stated that relations between Georgia and Serbia are based on shared European values and a common vision for the future, including the goal of full membership in the European Union.

The Speaker thanked the Serbian side for its support of Georgia’s territorial integrity and reaffirmed Georgia’s unwavering support for the territorial integrity of Serbia.

Aleksandar Vučić noted the strong and friendly relations between the two countries. He stressed the importance of successfully concluding negotiations on a free trade agreement, strengthening ties between business communities, and expanding cooperation in the field of tourism. He also highlighted the importance of parliamentary cooperation.

The establishment of a Georgia–Serbia Friendship Group in the Serbian Parliament was positively assessed during the meeting.

The parties also discussed the recent statement by Marta Kos, according to which future members of the European Union may not be granted the same voting rights as current member states. Against the backdrop of the current situation, the parties noted that it is particularly important to deepen relations among EU candidate countries and to define common objectives.
