Shalva Papuashvili introduced the Auditor General Giorgi Gabitashvili to the State Audit officers

H.E. Shalva Papuashvili, Speaker of the Parliament, introduced the Auditor General Giorgi Gabitashvili to the State Audit officers.
“Today, the Parliament of Georgia elected Giorgi Gabitashvili to the position of Auditor General. As the former Prosecutor General, he is not entirely unfamiliar with your Office. The outcomes of the State Audit Office may, in certain instances, fall within the jurisdiction of the Prosecution Office. The Prosecution Office often responds to numerous cases, detected by your Office. It is imperative to prevent the Audit Office from functioning as a punitive or controlling body. Instead, it should primarily be the institution that issues recommendations to various public entities regarding the appropriate and effective management of expenditure systems".
The professional skills and working experience of the candidate would facilitate his effective activity, the Speaker added.
“I am confident that Giorgi Gabitashvili will enhance the capacity of the Audit Office, thereby achieving greater efficiency. Furthermore, the Parliament and Government both anticipate having an advantage of “real-time” observing the efficiency of the utilisation of public assets”, - he asserted.
The Speaker thanked the former Auditor General, Tsotne Kavlashvili and the Audit officers for their activities.
As he noted, the Parliament highly appreciated the conclusions that the Audit Office submits to the legislative body.
“The Audit Office’s conclusions and assessments provide valuable insights into the monitoring of the consumption of public assets. In this capacity, the professional team of the Audit Office assumes a pivotal role. I extend my sincere gratitude to all officers of the Audit Office for their dedicated contributions”, - he stated.
The Parliament elects the Auditor General for a term of 5 years with reference of the Speaker.
