Georgia to now assume the presidency of the GUAM PA

On March 3, the GUAM PA convened a remote meeting with the presidency of Azerbaijan.

The Members of Parliaments of the GUAM member states participated in the joint sitting of the Committees and the Bureau, where the final version of the document was endorsed. The attendees also delivered speeches.

As Tornike Cheishvili, the First Deputy Chair of the Legal Issues Committee, underscored in his address, the facilitation of close sector cooperation between the GUAM member states will promote the identification of the common advantages and the bilateral process. According to him, the dialogue, the exchange of knowledge and experience, and the new projects and initiatives shall be prioritized.

Per his information, the Guam area presents a substantial opportunity for the development of trade, communications, energy, and transportation sectors, where the national parliaments can play a pivotal role. During the recent session, T. Cheishvili underscored that the GUAM region has recently encountered heightened challenges that pose a threat to the security, sovereignty, and territorial integrity of the participating countries. He emphasized the paramount importance of maintaining peace within the region and presented the priorities that are currently on the agenda of Georgia.

At the end of the session, the Assembly adopted a final document - the Communique.

Georgia has assumed the presidency of the organization from Azerbaijan with a term of one year.
