The Head of the Georgian Intelligence Service, Shalva Lomidze, assessed the security environment in the Black Sea region and spoke about these challenges at a meeting of the Defense and Security Committee.
The Committee heard the Head of the Service in camera due to the sensitivity of the matter. The committee hearing continued in a question-and-answer format after the information was presented, with the rapporteur providing relevant information to the MPs. Irakli Beraia, the Chairman of the Defense and Security Committee, reviewed the subject discussed at the meeting afterward.
"The Committee heard the information of the Intelligence Service about the security situation in the wider Black Sea region. The information included events in the South Caucasus, Ukraine, and eastern Ukraine, and Russian aggression in the region as a whole. We heard interesting and detailed information stating that the security environment in the region has deteriorated sharply due to Russian provocative and aggressive actions, and of course we also talked about the challenges, possible threats, and their possible impact on the country's national security and national interests. The information we heard was highly prepared, which confirms the high professionalism of the Service, the effectiveness of the work of our distinguished spies, as well as operatives and analysts, and I once again express my special gratitude and support to each of them in fulfilling the most important task of our country”, - Irakli Beraia stated.
