The member of the Reforms Group, Deputy Chair of the Defense and Security Committee, Teona Akubardia, met with the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Bulgaria to Georgia, H.E. Vesselin Valkanov to discuss the process of implementation of EC’s 12 recommendations for Georgia.

The Ambassador confirmed his intact support for the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Georgia, as well as for the country's Euro-Atlantic integration process.

"We discussed the procedures involved in qualifying Georgia as an EU candidate state. I described the work being done in the Parliament with regard to the execution of the 12-point proposals. It is crucial that the Ambassador from Bulgaria is a friend of Georgia and supports both the nation's territorial integrity and its aspirations to join the European Union. I explained to the Ambassador why I thought Georgia should be given candidate status despite many obstacles", - Teona Akubardia noted.
