The meeting of Tinatin Khidasheli with the Ambassador of Latvia to Georgia, Elite Gavel

Committee on European Integration 27 Apr 2015
The meeting of Tinatin Khidasheli with the Ambassador of Latvia to Georgia, Elite Gavel

The parties spoke about EaP Riga Summit in May, interests and expectations of Georgia. Latvia is EU presiding state thus EaP summit this year is to be held in Riga.

“The meeting was important. We, during two days, spoke with the Foreign Ministry of Latvia about the issues, specific provisions of the declaration, interests of Georgia, wills and expectations, so it was natural to meet the Ambassador and speak about these topics which we consider at the meetings with Foreign Ministers of Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia”.

The Committee works on sundry format. “Riga summit is one of the most important moments for us though we will have more to do afterwards as in May-June ratification shall be accomplished and EUAA and DCFTA shall be implemented. So, it is important to obtain support by our friends from Baltic and Scandinavian countries”.

Georgia has the window of opportunity to be involved in Baltic-Scandinavian Parliamentary Cooperation format. “This is the format established long ago. For our integration, Georgia shall be involved in this format and be active to obtain maximal support from experts and people, participating in integration process. Despite of the fact that Latvian presidency ends in June, our relations will become more active”.

“Latvian Government sees that the Georgian government tries its best and managed unfeasible. Latvia sees that Georgia started implementation of EUAA obligations much earlier than set. We expect perfect declaration from Riga Summit and Baltic and Visegrad countries will support Georgia to let it obtain best benefits from Riga summit”, - E. Gavel stated.
