The speech by the majority leader, David Saganelidze at the International Trade-Economic Forum opening ceremony in China

Media and Society 22 May 2015

D. Saganelidze delivered the speech at Silk Road Expo 2015 in Xian. He spoke about particular location of Georgia on silk road. During centuries, Georgia played an important role to connect Europe and Asia.

“Georgia is one of the first countries, agreeing to participate in this project. Georgia has already signed the bilateral agreement with China on cooperation within “Silk Road New Economic Bow”. Georgia is the first in the region singing the memorandum on free trade with China. In 2015, the first train left from silk road China section, from Urumqi to Tbilisi. This route will reduce cargo transportation from China to Europe”.

He noted that China is on the third place as the trade partners of Georgia and on the first place in terms of investments. Chinese companies express interest in Anaklia port construction. Export from Georgia to Chinese market, including wine export increases with 40% per year. “I hail the high level meetings to be frequent. I personally have the opportunity to meet the Vice-Prime Minister of China who confirmed participation of Georgia in new silk road project. In October Georgian PM is to visit China”.

In the end, D. Saganlidze thanked the organizers of the forum for invitation.

The speeches were also delivered by the Vice-Prime Minister of Kirgizstan and the representative of Thailand.
