The Agrarian Issues Committee discussing the Legal Initiative on Lands

The Committee discussed the Draft Law on Determination of the Target Purpose of the Land and Sustainable Management of the Agricultural Land Plots, introduced by the citizen Zviad Tomaradze.

The Draft aims at the elimination of the gaps in the legislation and restriction of the unsystematic changes to the agricultural land purpose in the uniform mass of the arable and other natural land plots. As the author of the Draft elucidated, the Draft regulates the unsystematic fragmentation of agricultural lands.

As the reporter, First Deputy Chair of the Agrarian Committee, Gela Samkharauli stated, and applicable law provides other issues requiring improvement. The Environmental Ministry already works in this direction and it’s preferable for the authors of the Draft to participate to ensure the complex finalization of the changes.

The explanations on the issue were introduced by the Chair of the National Agency for Sustainable Land Management and Land Use Monitoring at the Environmental Ministry, Giorgi Misheladze. According to him, the Working Group has been set up in view of the improvement of the legislation; he invited the authors to participate in the Group activity.

The attendees agreed that the problem requires the complex approach and engagement of other agencies and hence, the Draft will be considered along with the respective package being developed by the Ministry.
