The Independent MP Beka Natsvlishvili, holding the briefing, responded to the changes to the Labor Code stating that the position echoed by the representative of Georgian Dream will explicitly aggravate the condition of the laborers.

“If we revise the strikes, the laborers mostly strike for increase of the salaries. If we establish the restriction only on the labor time (with which we will deprive the laborers of the right to work at 2 jobs) and fail to establish the minimal salary, we thus will significantly aggravate their situation. For instance, the nurse getting 300 GEL is forced to seek for the second job to supply the family. If we deprive the nurse of the right to work simultaneously in another clinic without establishing the minimal salary, we will aggravate her/his situation. Thus, we have already registered the changes to the Labor Code adjusted to Georgian context and the needs of the laborers on the basis of the meetings with the society. We have started the meetings in the regions to introduce our initiative to the society instead of considering it with NGOs, experts and associations in camera. The changes we have registered are purposed to finally change and improve the condition of the laborers in Georgia”, - he commented to media.

If 40-hour labor week is established and the overtime labor is restricted, it shall be accompanied with the minimal salary and the overtime to be defined with 1,5 instead of 1.25.

“We have initiated the bill, envisaging establishment of the minimal salary of 500 GEL for full time, and 1,5 for hourly labor”, - B. Natsvlishvili noted.
