The Sector Economy and Economic Policy Committee discussed the Draft Law on Energy and Water Supply

The Committee discussed the Draft Law on Energy and Water Supply for the I reading.

As the Chair, David Songulashvili elucidated, the Law is supplemented by a new Article – “Exemption from the Electricity Regulation Fees supplied to the occupied territories of Georgia, and the remuneration of the Services of the Energy System Commercial operator”.

As a new Article stipulates, the mandatory remuneration of the electricity fees supplied to the occupied territories of Georgia, and the energy system commercial operator service fees shall not apply to electricity produced by Enguri HPP and Vardnili HPP cascades and supplied to the occupied territories in adherence to the legal requirements.

According to him, the Committee held an offsite sitting a couple of days ago at Enguri HPP and heard about the necessity of the adoption of the hereof Draft raised by the administration of the HPP.

As D. Songulashvili noted, this is a logical amendment since electricity is supplied to Abkhazia, which is a social part.

“Hence, this issue shall be regulated under the law. The Draft has been initiated in an expedited manner to ensure our assistance for Enguri HPP, which is one of the energy security guarantees of the country and a strategic object”, - he stated.

The Committee approved the Draft.
