The Diaspora and Caucasus Issues Committee heard the information about the ongoing and planned projects in the format of French-Georgian dialogue named after Dimitri Amilakhvari.
The statement on the establishment of the "French-Georgian Dialogue named after Dimitri Amilakhvari" was signed in Paris in February 2019 by the President of the French Republic Emmanuel Macron and the President of Georgia Salome Zurabishvili.
The French Foreign Legion colonel Dimitri Amilakhvari, a Georgian nobleman, was the inspiration for the dialogue's name.
According to Mukhran Gulaghashvili, head of the Department of Diaspora Relations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the first meeting in the mentioned format was held in December 2019, where high-ranking officials, civil servants, and representatives of business circles took part.
"High-ranking officials spoke about topics of relevance to both countries at the first session. To improve ties between Georgia and France, the presidents decided to have summits in this style annually. The following gathering is scheduled for 2023 in Tbilisi", - Mukhran Gulaghashvili stated.
Alexander Rusetsky, a member of the Scientific Advisory Council of the Diaspora and Caucasus Issues Committee, spoke about the importance of the Amilakhvari Dialogue in the direction of the development of Georgia-France relations, noting that it is especially important to share the experience of France in the direction of scientific diplomacy.
"France, unlike Georgia, has scientific diplomacy. France's experience in this direction is unique. France is training personnel and in its diplomatic corps there are people who are responsible for international scientific relations”, - Alexander Rusetsky noted.
According to Givi Chichinadze, the First Deputy Chair of the Committee, it is important to involve relevant thematic committees of the Parliament on issues of deepening Georgian-European cooperation, depending on various directions - "There are many topics, whether scientific or linguistic. We should involve the committees of education, science, and culture”.
