Gela Gelashvili elected as the Deputy-Chair of the Agrarian Issues Committee

This position is vacant since the Parliament elected G. Samkharauli as the Chair of the Committee. MPs unanimously supported the Signagi Single Mandate, G. Gelashvili.

MPs considered the Convention by the President for ratification on Set up of the European and Mediterranean Sea Plant Protection Organization, introduced by the Deputy-Agrarian Minister, N. Kereselidze. According to him, accession to EPPO is important for Georgia. EPPO holds consultations and aid for member states in administrative and legal acts necessary for prevention or drastic restriction of hazard quarantine organisms upon trade between the countries. The organization includes 50 countries. After accession, Georgia will obtain comprehensive and modern information by EPPO on phyto-sanitary data. Attitude to the plants exported by EPPO member states is expressed in trust by importers. The experts will be able to participate in international assemblies and conferences and thus, impact on international standards (to take the national interests into account). Georgia will have the opportunity to regulate phyto-sanitary disputes with other countries from EPPO podium. Accessing to EPPO will give: opportunity to achieve optimization of protection of the territory, agricultural species, forest species; phyto-sanitary quarantine remedy coordination and harmonization with EPPO member states’ measures which is of utmost importance upon international trade. The Committee supported the document.
