Giorgi Sosiashvili delivered a speech at the jubilee event dedicated to the 150th anniversary of Ivane Javakhishvili

A jubilee event marking the 150th anniversary of Ivane Javakhishvili was held at Tbilisi State University.

The Deputy Chair of the Education, Science and Youth Affairs Committee, Giorgi Sosiashvili, addressed the audience with a welcome speech.

“Congratulations on the day of our revered compatriot, the great Ivane Javakhishvili. This is a remarkable day, a celebration for every Georgian. Ivane Javakhishvili inherited the spiritual legacy of Ilia Chavchavadze. Ilia created Georgia, and Ivane Javakhishvili breathed scientific spirit and life into this new Georgia. Let us recall his words: ‘It is necessary for people to know true history, not exaggerated false narratives.’ This indicated that he was becoming the founder of a new era in Georgian historiography, and indeed, he became the patriarch of our historiography. Ivane Javakhishvili was truly a martyr. Despite immense pressure, he endured a difficult path with dignity and carried his mission through to completion”, - stated the Deputy Chair.

On behalf of the Education, Science and Youth Affairs Committee, Giorgi Sosiashvili congratulated the attendees on the 150th anniversary of Ivane Javakhishvili’s birth and wished them success.

At the event dedicated to the 150th birth anniversary of the great Georgian historian and public figure, founder of Tbilisi State University, Ivane Javakhishvili, speeches were also delivered by the Rector of the University, Jaba Samushia, the Education, Science and Youth Minister, Givi Mikanadze, the Locum Tenens of the Patriarchal Throne, Metropolitan Shio, as well as representatives of the educational and scientific community.
