Meeting of Irakli Medzmariashvili with the Vice President of the European Swimming League

The Chair of the Sports Committee, Irakli Medzmariashvili held a meeting with the Vice President of the European Swimming League, Josip Varvodic.

The parties deliberated on the possibility of organizing the men’s European Championship in Georgia.

As Mr. Varvodic noted, the establishment of the infrastructure for the water polo championship does not require the construction of a special pool but the operating Tbilisi Sports Arena pool will be used since it meets all international standards.

I. Medzmariashvili approved the initiative of Mr. Varvodic noting that he intends to consult with the executive authorities about the organization of the European championship.

“Now, when we are criticized for not aspiring to the EU, the holding of the European Water Polo Championship in Georgia with the participation of 16 teams from the European countries acquires higher importance, including in terms that the teams arrive with their fans and supporters, who, upon their stay in Georgia, will hear more about our country, our culture and history. Thus, fund-raising for the European championship is worth all the efforts and I will hold meetings and consultations about the organizational issues”, - he stated.

After the meeting, Mr. Varvodic invited I. Medzmariashvili to Croatia to get cognizant of the Croatian model of financing of the sports federations.
