Irakli Sesiashvili: I hail the reforms implemented in the MIA and the intensive development underway

The members of the Parliamentary Trust Group: Irakli Sesiashvili, Anri Okhanashvili, Irakli Beraia and Irakli Abesadze heard the report of the Minister of Internal Affairs Vakhtang Gomelauri in camera.

As Vakhtang Gomelauri pointed out after the meeting with the Trust Group, discussions mainly concerned the budget of the Interior Ministry and classified procurements, which, as he assumed, are the least processed at the Ministry of Internal Affairs compared to other law enforcement agencies.

“During the meeting, I focused on the procurement goals and the budget dimensions. We touched on the issue of salary increase, namely, the number of people who enjoyed the increased salary in 2019, and those who are expected to benefit from the increase in 2020. We also dwelt upon the border issues, since, as you know, we have problems in several directions, including with Azerbaijan, where we have served a visit and expect this problem to be shortly resolved. However, with regard to demarcation and inventory, we have a problem with Armenia as well. This is a very time-consuming process that cannot be resolved over night, but we are elaborating on this issue”, - Vakhtang Gomelauri stated.

The Chair of the Defense and Security Committee, Irakli Sesiashvili hailed the reforms carried out in the Ministry of Internal Affairs and stated: “I also hail the intensive development. Apart from the systematic development of border protection and the technical upgrades with the up-to-date equipment, the Ministry of Internal Affairs is sparing no efforts to increase the salaries for police officers and law enforcement officials. I can assure you that dozens of new buildings have been maintained to enhance border protection and salaries have increased several times, which is something to be praised. We’ve discussed absolutely every aspect of border protection, familiarizing ourselves with both the positive achievements and the challenges, including in the context of relations with neighboring countries. We touched on classified procurements", - Irakli Sesiashvili stated, adding that the impression is very positive.

I. Sesiashvili wished the Ministry of Internal Affairs success in enhancing the security of the country and its population.
