
The Committee approved the Bill on Criminal Code, envisaging the stricter sanctions to the drug dealing.
The Deputy Interior Minister, Alexander Darakhvelidze introduced the statistical data of drug crime and drug dealing.
The Bill envisages the stricter sanctions for the distribution of the narcotic means, new psychoactive, psychotropic and drastic agents, namely the detention of 10-15 years instead of 6-12 for the illegal distribution of the narcotic means, its analog, precursors or new psychoactive agents, as well as the detention of 12-17 instead of 7-14 for the distribution in high amount, and 14-20 or life detention for the particular high amount.
“We all agree that the drug addict shall not be punished or arrested but we also agree that the sanctions shall be stricter to the drug dealers. The Interior Ministry introduced the information about the increased cases and overdosing, so the decision is to be made on stricter sanctions for the drug dealing. As it seems, the current Law is not enough to prevent the crimes”, - the Chair, Dimitri Khundadze stated. The Committee approved the Bill with the I reading.
