Meeting of Khatuna Samnidze with Kelly Degnan

Khatuna Samnidze, Chair of the Reforms Group, met with US Ambassador to Georgia, H.E. Kelly Degnan to discuss the situation in the region, Georgia's security issues, and the meetings held by the US Ambassador to Washington.

According to Khatuna Samnidze, the meeting emphasized the importance of joint decisions by the government and the opposition.

"The main issue we talked about was the situation in the region and the difficult picture we have - the war that Putin started. This war is not only in Ukraine, it is a war against the whole civilized world and is directly related to Georgia. Of course, we talked about Georgia's security issues. We underlined the importance of uniting not only the society but also the government and the opposition around national interests at such a time, to be able to jointly decide on these important issues and jointly address issues directly related to the country's security - what steps are planned, what is the government's vision and what should be done to protect every citizen in the country, national interests and, of course, our country to have a clear position to stand by our partner - Ukraine and the whole civilized world”, - the Chair stated.

Kelly Degnan noted that the US government will continue to support Georgia.

"We talked about the topics related to the ongoing processes in the region. Of course, we touched on the tragic events that are taking place in Ukraine today by Mr. Putin and the Kremlin, which, of course, was unprovoked and that killed many children and affected the Ukrainian population. We also discussed the meetings I held in Washington, where we talked about supporting Georgia. It is very important that we meet all political parties in Georgia. Of course, the US government will continue to support Georgia. The main message that everyone should take into account is that Georgia should be united”, - Kelly Degnan stated.
