The parliamentary factions “Lelo - Partnership for Georgia” and “Charles Michel Reform Group” have signed an inter-parliamentary memorandum on NATO membership.

The memorandum also mentions Ukraine's membership in NATO, according to Giorgi Vashadze, one of the leaders of the "Charles Michel Reform Group." According to him, the memorandum's signatories will meet with the Ukrainian side to draft a cooperative action plan to make Georgia and Ukraine's voices heard more clearly.

"This is not an easy procedure, but now that the NATO integration process has stalled, it is our role and obligation as citizens, Georgian people, to make every effort to join NATO and take specific initiatives”, - Giorgi Vashadze stated.

Badri Japaridze, Chairman of the "Lelo - Partnership for Georgia”, believes that this agreement, unlike the declarations, will have a tangible result, which will accelerate our country's integration into Euro-Atlantic structures.

"Our goal is also to join forces with our Ukrainian counterparts to ensure that our nations, which face similar issues, may expedite their entry into Euro-Atlantic structures, and that our efforts to join forces with our Ukrainian counterparts can only help this process", - B. Japaridze stated.

The memorandum's authors claim that the process would be open and transparent to everybody, and that Georgian and Ukrainian MPs, as well as representatives from NATO member states, civil society, and academia, will be invited.

The factions are planning large-scale measures to achieve the goals and objectives of the memorandum, including the development of a joint action plan at the parliamentary level.

They will also exercise parliamentary oversight over the executive branch to ensure that NATO standards are met to enhance the democratic development, rule of law and defense of our countries, and the compatibility of Georgia and Ukraine with NATO.
